Fake News Research Guide

Hutchinson Unabridged Encyclopedia defines fake news as "Deliberate misinformation or a hoax spread via the print, broadcast, or social media, with the intent to mislead readers for financial or political gain." Fake news takes all forms--print, audio, social media platforms--if it can convey information, it can be fake.
